About Part 3: The technical ME. The gloomy side of me is only an occasional phenomenon. Normally, I'm the Industrial Designer I am; full of energy and cheerful. I like to experiment with new things and live life to the fullest. I always look for subtle solutions and fresh, new views, both personally as well as professionally. But that's about enough of Me. Nice to meet you all....:) This triptych can be explained in three ways. First of all, a slow exposure of who I am, from abstract to unrecognisable to almost clear. Secondly, as I'm getting younger during the course of this triptych, I would like to state that you are only as old as you feel you are....:) and thirdly the fact that a stand alone photo can be misinterpretated either with or without description of the photo. That's what makes photography so nice; its always free to the viewers imagination to perceive any photo in any way appropriate, which does not necessarily mean the photo is intended that way. I would like to thank Paolo De Maio for make me dig this one up. His presentation of himself remided me of this "vintage" photo....:) Thanks, Paolo, This one's for you, my friend!
Cheers,

Hugo

PS: With No Photoshop i mean, that this is not a compilation of different photos. I did use PS to clean up some dust and scratches on the old negatives, and I noticed I've overdone it on the levels....

This is a very original self-portrait, Hugo. I don't think I've ever seen one done with a lens.

Hugo I'd say we are "kindered spirits" - Interesting that you got all of this in frame - sharpness within lense and soft focus out. Were you using a remote here? 1/2 second... You've actually inspired me to re-create a similar shot in my own experimentation. Thank you for your advice on my "photographer/subject" - yes and agreed on the right side lense image 'cleanup' - I hope to post a revision -- feel free to comment again, I find your critiques very informative. Adding you to my friends list. Kind Regards, Cindi

Groeten, Lex..

exellent work! I really like this shot. Once I experimented myself with selfportrait trough a filter -as u done here with lens. I remember it was rather difficult and that I should have another go...

Ratate and you can see the real,Hugo,,You create a radial composition for self portrait,in which key element spread out from the middle of the frame this impact has a lively feeling ,even if subject is static,,great original idea, some self ideas give approach to the cleare idea about the person involve in creating it,original and creative,am not commenting on the the "techinques" you already explained..great job Hugo

So that's the photographer's eye! And head, too. The background spotlights the subject by contrast in color and focus.

Dear Hugo!!
I'm so proud and honoured to receive your so kind mention about this realization.
I have to admit this one is best of mine because it's more natural than mine...still I'm so happy because we got an innovative and original way to introduce ourself to UF friends.
In fact a lot of comments received from our friends underlined it!!
I appreciated your composition technique and I thank you for dedicated this one to me
I believe this is an innovatove way to be digital neighbours friends.
Hoping to know in person in the next future ....

All the best

Paolo

hugo, how imaginative and original!! i've been looking for a way to do something similar but have failed so far. tried using my glasses but it didn't work out. never thought of using it as a self-portrait vehicle, though. i agree that you overdid the levels but this photo is so cool and unusual that i didn't really notice. the combination of the blurred you and the reversed but clear you is what makes this one for me. excellent shot!!

take care,
tom
