This is quite a good minimal DOF...the window frame leads into the figurine nicely...
Things to remember about a minimal DOF are that light and shadow are greatly enhanced in the viewer's eye when they can't make out the stuff in the background. I find that it is always good to try to find a dark background (at least for my style) as the light will always show up more than you expect it too (nice thing about light ;))...
I agree about Macro lenses and as I love minimal DOF, I use them a lot. I also find that to enhance the vagueness of the background, use the fastest practical shutter speed - you can always lighten the image again (too fast is too grainy).
I am not sure about the red object in this image but I am sure it will work very well for many...I like the tiny bit of debris by the figurine's foot - it is almost the sharpest focus in the image and lends an interesting perspective to the shot...

Hi Sandy, The DOF is very nice, it bring out the figurine perfectly. I agree with the effect of the razor thin DOF that can be achieved with a macro. I like the touch of colour the apple adds to the photo. Another option would be to place a long object in the frame, pointing (at an angle towards the camera; the gradient from out of focus, to well focused and than a fading focus again could also be very well used to increase the sense of depth and perspective. I think I miss an object nearer to the camera, also slightily outside the DOF range. The blurred shapes can be very well used to frame the composition. Very nice shot, though, I like it, very appealing...:)

I like the attention to the background here. The figurine looks like it been around the block (a couple times) ;-) What aperture did you use here? Macro shots are good for the DOF thing - pretty much always razor thin.
