On HK ISland, with so many tall buildings, there is no direct light at dawn or dusk. From 10.00am 'til late afternoon the sun is high and bright leading to wide lighting differences between subjects in the shadows and those in direct light. Expose for one and the other either burns out or fills in.
This was shot across the street with my 28-80 (effectively 45-125 on the D30) already fairly heavily cropped and considerably "lightened" in the "window" on the tailor in Photoshop. I'm going to try this again using my 80-200 (effective 125-320) framing on the tailor only. If that works better, you'll see it here first :-)

this one the light is falling off too quick past the standing woman center....I like the front portion....but actually you probably can save this if you crop horizonal over the center womans head but just at her head dont give it too much space above her
