Roger,
I love viewing your work. I think your seeing is creatively expansive. You pick up something, some sense of existence within your composition. Whether they are objects, landscape or people within their composition is "the thing" that really makes the photo. What you see is good enough to pull me in, but the what do I see, what do you want me to see when I get there. If I have no guide, but I'm interested, I'll find one myself.
Patterns, beautiful patterns like people moving about in a market place. Or waves billowing in a big sea. So much to see, but I want to rest my eyes. I can on this sea of brown wood. What if you photograph it alone. Or possibly it including this gorgeous red table excluding the distortion of the angle. Perhaps you might keep this photo but enlarge to fragment it. Just an opinion. thank you for sharing it. though it is quite busy, there is an amazing presence of patience about it. Take another look.

Roger, I agree to your opinion. The light and the colurs are great, thee whole shop looks great at the first sight but after a while one finds it disturbing that one cannot recognize the fine details. It would be better if at least in the foreground all theses little thing should be clearly visible. Means you did not really step into the scene, as you desribed it yourself. The upper part of the image is less exciting, so one could do it without thisa part stepping nearer, concentrating on the first desk in front of the shop?

I reckon you should go for the owner or why bother??...your nature shots are great, how about some of the weird modern Japanese their dress is usually outrageous..you must have a wealth of of photo ops drifting around the streets of japan...thanks for your comments roger i took down my drummer boy because I felt the same as you not a good crop....I sometimes get my photos printed at a very good printer here in oz... I have thought about Epsom but I can just upload my pics and they are done the next day $5 for a very large print and looking good...here is a link http://www.russellbrown.com/body.html good article about seeing in BW and try this contrast sharpen...unsharp mask radius 30-50...percentage 10-30 threshold 0 I reckon it is the best way to sharpen the normal way I don't like much maybe different for film...see ya roger

It was to get this kind of comment I uploaded this shot--one that I'm not too happy with--in the "Photo Help" project. I did try it with less sharpening but the little items just ran together with inadequate resolution. I accept the over-sharpening criticism, but I think the exposure was spot on. Why do you think it looks overexposed, Rob? I'm sufficiently attracted by the possibilities of this location to want to go back and try again.

Nice overview of the store, but a bit to busy for me.
Of course such comments are depending on the viewers feeling / style and are not always relevant. If I have to photograph this store I would look for a smaller part that takes my attention and shoot these. Details like your "Bags a la mode". I really like that composition.

M.H.O., its so crowded that even with a Bessa L you cann't get it right. Its overexposed and oversharpened. The remarkable thing is that it does not show depth because the lighting is so even from front to back and despite the wedged counter. I hope you dont take my straigtforwardness as displaced. I left a comment at my "Chez Moi" specifically for you. Have nice day Roger, regards Rob.
