About Engine of a new semi tractor. I was interested in the various shapes and textures in the same color. Sometimes, I evaluate a picture or scene by the length of time that it held my attention. I call this ?linger power.? This engine captured/held my attention for a long time before I took the picture. The driver of this truck was pleased that I admired his machine.

At first it reminded me of a Chinese Dragon. Fascinating capture. Great eye you have.

Harlan,

I bet he was very pleased. While I don't know your appearance. I do know your background - a background shown through many of your images and that is familiar to me. I can imagine you talking with him and gaining his confidence before you took this shot.

I was in Iowa this past weekend and every time I make the five hour drive to my parents I want to photograph all those old falling down barns, homesteads, windbreaks, and corn cribs that I see. I want to get all those old churches on film and walk through all those cemetaries.

I told my husband this weekend that these sites and the ones where I grew up are disappearing. By the time I am old, the cemetaries will be sinking into the ground and some of the towns I knew as a child will quite possibly be ghost towns.

I think it would be fun to travel with someone such as you or Richard Thornton who know this world and take images before they disappear.

But life is busy.

Mary
