Really nice work Matthew. I think the B+W medium made this a winner. Very inspiring.

Hello, Matthew. This is Clif in Austin. I checked out your portofolio after you left a comment in mine (thanks) and I have to say, "Nice Work! " This photo is especially strong. I really like it! The reflection makes the image. Keep up the good work!

Matthew, I like the image as it is because a triangle is being formed with the boy and the doorway. If the boy were sitting if front of the doorway, the two would then look like one object, like a statue with a frame around it, or a statue in a box. The boy there would also cover up some of the mystery of the doorway, which is why I first opened the image anyway. I also like the motion you have created in the reflection and would hate to see that lessened in any way. Just my opinion!

It has great mood and lighting, but I have several suggestions. The black frame adjacent to a dark photo doesn't work, the frame needs to set off the photo. The vertical lines at upper right are a bit bright and distracting. And I agree with Jun, the doorway should maybe frame the piano player. The overall effect is quite nice as is but could be even better, I think.

I've seen this somewhere else and love it there and love it more over here. I think I saw a wider version, but this is more intimate.

Matthew, I have never been moved by an image the way this one has moved me. I just sat here in awe, especially since I am really into black and white now. I like the way the frame has become part of the image. Congrats. I can't believe there is no ribbon on this.

the tones are incredibly moody and deep here. what film did you use? and i agree with jun ma's comment...using the door as a frame certainly would bring out the man as the main focus with less distractions.

This is an interesting picture. But when I look at it, I feel distracted. The doorway competes againt the piano man for my attention. A little change in the composition might make a big difference. My suggestion is using the doorway to frame the piano player. That way, the message of this image will feel much stronger... Just my opinion.
