Taken at the Great Salt Lake marina. Not a great photo, I know, but I was surprised the Holga picked up as much detail in the rocks as it did. It\'s a bummer there isn\'t any vignetting! ;-)
Christine, if you do decide to take out the 6x4.5 mask, the exposed plastic will scratch the film, so you'll have to line it with felt. You can either buy felt at a fabric store, or just take a whole bunch of it out from some empty 35mm cartridges.
And get this! I opened up my Holga, and the sunny aperture is this big rectangle that's wider than the whole lens opening! So in essence, it's non-functional, just like what one guy said in his Holga website. What I did was get some blackened film, burned a 1/16" hole through it, and glued it over the rectangle. I made some test shots using 35mm film, and boy was it sharp. I'm taking the 1/16" aperture out and am thinking of gluing on a small piece of red cellophane for a cheap red filter instead.
You mean I have to take something out of the camera to get that vignetting? Next roll, it's outta there!
This was taken at sundown, the same day I took the "Rock Reflections" photo. Same place, different rocks though. I drug 3 cameras with me that day, hoping for some kind of a nice sunset photo due to the fires that were burning near by. But between chasing the young 'un all around, the lack of clouds and the smoke blowing to the east, I ended up with pictures of rocks... Well, I did get 1 sunset photos over the lake, but to me it's less than spectacular. Maybe I'll still post it here though since it's already scanned.
Hi Spencer! Nope, not much of a drive at all, maybe all of 10 minutes, if that. If you ever do decide to drive out this way, let me know and maybe I'll tag along! :-)
What I like about this is the slightly high vantage point, and the light. It's either morning or sundown, and it's really nice how it skims the rocks and the light turns cold on the shadow side. Reminds me of when we used to go fishing a lot on the jetties. I think the reason you didn't get the vignetting is because the 6x4.5 cm mask is still in the camera, right?
Looks like the middle of a giant M made out of rocks. :) Interesting shot! I'm going to have to drive out to the Great Salt Lake one of these days.. but being in magna, it's not much a drive for you, eh? : ) WEll done!
