About So some of the comments on this shot point out the objectionable flash reflections. How would you go about taking a shot like this to reduce the flash reflections? Some givens: I found this cluster of ladybugs inside our barn, only light avaialable was overhead flourescents, I used the flash on auto. My camera has a flash fill mode, would that have been less intense flash? Obviously diffused sunlight would have been better, what I'm wondering is what can be done if natural light is not available?

Yes, if your camera allows it, you could dial in maybe minus 2/3 stop for the flash. I usually always derate my flash for all pictures since I prefer less exposure and more saturation. That said, this image has a high interest value. Maybe the ladybugs would consent to another session.

Good one Charlie. Given your light situation, you really did need to use the flash - I think the fill flash would have given you a better result. I don't know your camera - can you bounce the flash? If you don't have a low white ceiling or white wall (alot of barns don't!) you can maybe bounce the flash off a piece of white foamcore or somthing. Or try using a diffusor on your flash, in combination with the fill flash. I've heard of just putting tissue over the flash. I hope you get a chance at this one again. Take care!

Charlie, I really like the composition of all these ladybeetles. I do wish there were less flash spots on them. Nice composition and color. Oh yeah, they bunch together for the purpose of getting photographed. When you left the barn, they all went their seperate ways.
