Toning is a process by which you colour lightly the tones in a Black & White photography. In wet photography, that would be done by exposing the paper to chemical reactions with metal salts solutions. Very toxic ! In digital processing, I use PhotoShop. First step is to convert the image to Graysacle under Image -> Mode. Then, Under the same Menu, Duotone becomes available. Select that. You can then choose from sets of tones in duotones (two tones), tritones (three) and quadtones (four) by Loading... them. Or else, you can create your own...
Christian, that's beautiful, but what on earth is a tritone??? I have to learn a lot, I know and I'm lacking of time to do that. Thank you for your appreciation, I'm honored.
Well felt. This photo is very graphical : a featureless sky, a lost horizon, lines that look like scars in the face of the earth. I would propose this version. I cropped out the white reflections in the foreground and also a good part of the sky, while retaining almost the total width. I used a brownish and orange tritone on it. Just an idea, a way to share my appreciation for your work.
