This is excellent. Painting with light can create some wonderful work. You have done well. The highlights on her bottom lip and the catch in her eyes are the hightlights of this photo for me.
Your daughter is beautiful.

Fantastic work! She managed to hold perfectly still for 13 seconds? Wow! Congratulations. I'm going to try the "begging on bended knee" with my kids, maybe it'll work :)
I have another question, and you don't need to answer if you don't want, but what is "light painting"? Is it the same as long exposure?
Thanks,
Ursula

Thank you all so much for your wonderful support on this effort here! :)
John, yes I waved it around having no idea if that was what you did...sort of held it like a big paint brush and went over her figure with it...guess that's about right.;)
Will try others in the future when I can corner a model.
Carol...'frightening pagan ritual' lol! That's so funny!

I knew this technique, but I never used it, only one time many years ago, but outdoor, just for fun. Instead your try is very very good, thankx to your daughter's support too and her 13 sec patience ;), I like her, her expression and particulary the hand gesture, but I love this warm toning and the intimate atmosphere you created. Bye Max

Fine, fine light painting, Peta. LOve those golden tones that make her glow. All the effort (from both) paid off. Everytime your work gets better and better. I'm waiting for the next step :) Hugs, Marília PS: Problems with PC, still :(

Very cool Peta! This is something I've always wanted to try as well! I'll have to hit up Anna for her technique. The thought of you waving around a power strip with two night lights is quite fun! I hope the neighbors weren't peering into the window. They may have thought you were in the middle of some kind of frightening pagan ritual! :-)

Interesting tone from the incandescents. Did you actually move them around? Wonder how the filament action in a low wattage blub plays into this long exposure. Clear bulbs? Gives a certain "skin to the image, dosen't it! Very nice. Peta! And your usual strong composition!

She probably thinks your nuts! Worth the trouble though because the result is very effective. I haven't a clue what this kind of painting with light is. When I was a student at Film School the 'painting with light' I knew was a means of lighting the subject in such a way that you got wonderful moulding of the features as well as drama and depth in the scene - Orson Welles's films benefited as did many of the great American 'film noir' classic movies from the technique. Best wishes. David.

Peta; this is absolutely beautiful! I love the softness and warmth. You-- and Brooke-- take the greatest portraits.
I really appreciate your interest and taking the time to fiddle with my Green Dory boat pic, and plan to add warmth to the middle ground like you did before printing-- it adds a greater sense of depth.
If you don't mind, I would really like your input on my portrait of "Blair" because you do them so well, and that's an area where I'm a near total dork. I was looking for a texture filter to soften the light on her face, but the PSP Antique Glass filter that I used just wasn't very flattering. any suggestions? Thanks. Craig
