About I preferred the mood of the geyser basins in the evenings. It was quite cold that day and actually snowed a few "freak" flakes. I kept warm, though, with a flask of schnapps hidden in one of the many pockets of my photographer's vest. It always pays to be prepared...

I really love your Yellowstone photographs - there is a lot to learn when you see someone else's interpretations of the places you been to.

The toning in the sky is so cool Carol, the steam from the geysers look quite ominous raising up into it.
The 'preparations' sound delicious.:)

Beautiful scene and great details, I like the tone you have used, the steam contrast nicely with the bg and the lighting is very good, nice work - Richard.

A few "freak flakes?" Hey, careful, those are my friends you're talking about. (Specifically, I'm thinking of Dirty Martini, the burlesque dancer and Tyler Fyre, the sword swallower/fire eater. Someday I'll post Tyler's portrait on UF).

Although they are bright and located at the intersection of thirds, the steam from the geyser basins doesn't seem to generate enough visual interest to carry this scene. Did you shoot anything here with a strong foreground element -- like a fallen tree? I wonder if focusing on a more dominant subject, and then letting the viewer "discover" the geysers as part of the overall background environment wouldn't work better?

Maybe yes? Maybe no?

Pass the schnapps -- for some strange reason, I find peach is especially tasty when the freak flakes are falling. --Jim

Hi Carol. I like the way you exposed and composed this photo, the light on the geyser and sky makes this photo interesting, good photo work. Take care with that schnapps, too much of it is`t healthy ! Regards

Bella luce. Sembra un paesaggio quasi irreale. Ciao Cecilia

Carol; I really like the tone of this-- is it natural? Anyway, kind of surrealistic and moody. If you haven't seen them, please take a look at my boat reflections. Cheers. Craig
