Thanks Peter, it looks like it's very detailed and I'll have to try it when I get home! Once I work my way through it I'll let you know if I have any other questions! Cheers Kim

I have PS Elements 3, so I think there are some differences between it and the full version, here's a tutorial :
http://www.usefilm.com/photo_forum/14/577892/
does that explain it ?

Hi Peter, Thanks for the comment... can you tell me how to find the PS grad filter, like what heading would it be under? Thanks again!

awesome shot...instead of dodge and burn there is a grad filter thing in PS that you could check out, also there's a technique where you have two layers, one exposed for highlights, the other for shadows, then you blend the two...

For me, this version is a bit too sharp and too blue... I like the original version better, it looks more natural. That one is a bit soft; you used a tripod and f/16, so that's probably the result of your 'horrible' scanner ;) PS unsharp mask can remove some of this scanner softening (see http://www.usefilm.com/photo_articles/23/Photoshop_Basics:_Achieving_Sharpness_for_Web_Images.html) bot don't overdo.

Looks to sharp to me too Kim... I like the colours and contrast better in the original and wonder what the drybrush version looks like as I think that would rock...

I like the better colors and sharpness. The image now seems quite a bit more contrasty compared to the previous one. I wonder if this is the scanner....

I guess I've been looking at the soft version for too long... this seems WAY TOO SHARP for me... but I think I'm just biased as the version of this that I really like it done with the Photoshop Dry Brush tool. Thanks for the comments so far!

I very much like the strong colours and the lighting/blue shadows on the rocks!! I guess the original print is a bit more sharp.
