This one just popped up on the front page, and I see it's from quite a few years ago. I find this fascinating for all sorts of reasons:

- it has echoes of what I was trying to achieve with a couple of recent images.

- it provides a flashback to earlier UF days (long before I was here!)

- and of course it's a great shot!

Thanks for the kind remarks on this image. I've been out of pocket a few days and it was nice to come home to all these comments. I appreciate everyone's thoughts about this image.

I saw this and thought 'wow, nice...that looks like a photo I saw on here when I first joined by a guy who's name I can't remember...Sai I think it was'. But it's not, and it's different and amazing. All the different tones of blue and gradients...wow. And it also made me realize how long I've been visiting this site!

Keep it up!

Mary - i like the colors here and have to agree to the many comments re that. However, imo, from what I can see from the clouds is that it is more interesting than the bland spot up to the first white splash in the foreground - have you perhapst taken another shot with the camera pointing upwards so that you get close to only one third of the sea, the rest clouds?

excellent! i like how you can't tell, at first glance, where the horizon is. the lighting here makes the water and sky a single continuous texture. nice catch.

You seem to have a great love of nature and talent in sharing it with us.

Thanks for your points on my Narcissus. I had a second look and took a few out of the series. I am going to buy some and redo the photos later.

ooooh i like this one... really like it... (yes it's Vigeland, though this particular picture you've commented has another background than you would see in the park. Most of the shots of the statues however is clean shots) Thanks.

This is really a beautiful shot, Mary Sue! Amazing how many shades and colors are shown within such a narrow palette. I love the silvery tone of the sun on the water, and the wonderful tranquil mood overall. Terrence K. is right on about the 'rules' - do what feels right! Nice work!

God I just love the color of this...any chance I can buy it from you? I would look so great in my bedroom!

Mary Sue, This is one of my favorites from your portfolio. Vast and peaceful...with a hint of foreboding...love all the shades of blue you captured. Good stuff!

you have 2 disappearing horizons in the photo simply a great shot! And the tones of blue are incredible.

Incredible light! I really like this lighting situation you have here. The composition is clean and balanced - everything in its place. The layers add a good sense of depth. The scenery seems to stretch on forever. To me, nothing is too hot in this shot. In fact, without some brighter spots the shot would be too gray. I like this one as is. Well-done!

Mary Sue Hayward   {K:17558} 7/23/2002
Sarah, TK, Ron, John, thanks for all the comments. I appreciate all of your ideas. This was shot from an overlook between San Francisco and Sausalito. The hot spots really looked that way on the water in real life. Maybe that cloud needs some work, I'll try it and see. What remember about shooting this is that I was amazed that the light fell like this...almost as if there were spotlights from above. Thanks again for all the feedback. I am going to print this soon to see if I can capture the blues I see on my monitor.

John Charlton   {K:5595} 7/23/2002
I love it. What do you think about the hot spots? Can you play with this image any? It's such a winner.

Ron Browne   {K:1282} 7/23/2002
Hi Mary Sue,
Have to agree with Terrence here. Would have liked to see the hot spot in the clouds burned down just a little, but the light on the water is just beautiful. Don't know where you took this at, but it could have been right here in So. California where I live. Very nice!

Terrence Kent   {K:7023} 7/23/2002
Why this is Sai or Petros quality, beautiful image mary sue. The highlights do seem a touch hot, but no biggy. Think the real lesson here is that you kept the brainless compositional rules out of the equation and put the horizon where it felt right~

Sarah Needham   {K:2482} 7/23/2002
I like the simplicity of this. The natural blue tones are also really nice.
