- Hyper focal distance that I mentioned above is more to be used in the near/far distance scenes such as landscapes. But I mentioned here just to emphasize the point "depth".
- This type of shallow depth works great with flowers or some colorful subjects, but the expectation there might be just the colors and not the actual subject itself.

Macro shots... What I learned (of course, I have reached that lesson in my course, but) you would have to get depth so that the whole subject in focus. You are so close to the subject you will get very little depth in the even if you go smaller aperture. This DOF is explained in the topic "Hyper focual distance", I am sure you will be aware of that.
Coming back to the picture, I love the white bg and exposure here and the composition on the left side image.
