In the Netherlands it is a tradition to celebrate the birthday of H.M. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands at April 30th. However it was for sure not allowed during the Nazi occupation. And our country was liberated and in peace at May 5th 1945. So is the photo made at April 30th 1946 ? No, I do not believe so. I think it was made in May 1945 because the new freedom was celebrated spontaneously. And I see a pine tree/christmas tree at the side of the car. Nowadays I know that tree is put on top of the house when the highest point is reached. A kind of blessing from pagan times ? Anyhow, pretty girls on the wagon and a serious looking man with a carnation on his shirt ( carnation related to prince Bernard ). My guess is that these girls were either local or from the "huishoudschool" my mum was visiting ( huishoudschool = a school where girls are trained to do the household, cooking, cleaning and be a good wife, ah, those good old days ;) And the girl standing at the back i see my mum, Feikje Smilda. And who is the man with the camera ?
wish that for my country too, it is so Hilarious to have an occupied country in the last moments of time, funny, strange, out of mind, unfair ,inhuman ,...oh sorry .... forgot that the occupiers are humans too, aha ..my simple mind dectate to me : by the name only.
