About Grapes do not ripen in Illinois until September. Tomatoes are late July. Strawberries are good for the getting’ at the end of May. Punkins’? Not till October. Onions and radishes , now those are pretty early. They are ready in April… if the weather is juuusssst right. Corn is harvested in October. Apples… fresh from the tree, apples are mid-June and early July. And there is very little in this world that is better than a baked apple plucked fresh off the tree. Here is the recipe: Apple.(preferably from the tree right outside yer door) Trim a bit of the skin off… not all of it, just a touch at the top. Core it… take the center (centre???) out. “Can it core a apple?” “Yes, it can core a apple.” (Sorry, slipped into a classic Honeymooners episode) Stuff the cored hole full with real butter and a tad of sugar and a heapin’ helpin’ of cinnamon. Bake at 350F until the center of the apple is ALMOST soft… pull out, set in bowl, lather with the cinnamon-butter-sugar juice… and enjoy. No, really… I mean E-N-J-O-Y!!!!! MM makes great baked apples…
