About
I was shooting last night's thunderstorms from a hill near my home, using a burned down sawmill as a frame. The most-active lightning that I was attempting to capture was over the distant mountain in the center of the photograph.
I was set up about 500 feet from the mill and zoomed in at 141 mm. As the camera snapped away in 1/4 second shots, I wasn't really paying attention to the storm at the moment. I only briefly caught a glimpse of something that I thought had probably been "close".
It wasn't until I downloaded my photos from the shoot that I noticed just how close this particular bolt had been. Seemingly, it hit the mill or just behind it.
This is an un-cropped photo, only downsized for the web.
LOL.....I LOVE this stuff Mr. Arnold!!! This is the kind of moment where your heart jumps outta your chest just to let you know you're alive.....GREAT stuff! -john
You really got those lightning bolts very crisp and clean. Most pictures of lightning I see have the lightning itself blown out. Thank you for posting your exposure information. Did you use manual focus at infinity? Nice work indeed.
Hey Dave- I think You were dazed by this beautiful lightening storm - Yes :(( Sadly I think it 'touched you ' Hahaha!!! Just kidding as YOU already know - you wacky photographer :))
Beautiful tones in the bolts of lightening - excellent shot !! Be careful in these storms my dear !
