Thank you, Ahmed. This National Park is comprised of huge dunes at the base of a mountain range in Colorado. The mountains are heavily forested and at the top of the photo, you can barely make out the trees on the mountainside. The dunes were caused by winds blowing valley sands up against the base of the mountains.

Colorado can be considered "desert" in some places. It is like New Mexico, a lot of varying terrain. Where I live in New Mexico, it is much more like what a desert is supposed to look like but there are other parts of my state that look more like Colorado with forests and lush gree grasses.

Best wishes,
Dave

I rarely do it too . . . unless the DOF is my primary motivation. On Macro . . . dropping down to about f/2.8 and landscapes (unlike seascapes) a minimum of f/8.0 but sometimes f/11 . . . or if the sun is visible even up to f/22 to pull out the rays (beautiful but at a cost in contrast) . . . Seascapes need finer shutter control to make certain the water is affected as you intend (obviously) . . . Sometimes I just go fully manual there and try to force a combination knowing the RAW can be moved a couple of stops for exposure and the depth and shutter can be as I want even if the light meter suggests a slight . . . uhhhh . . . 'offage'? LoL!

I wasn't criticizing the depth you had here - it's good . . . just surprised, I guess, that not everybody does it like I do! :P

Doyle I <~~~~~

Thanks, Doyle. I rarely shoot on Aperture priority solely because somebody said not to. Said they would much rather control the shutter... maybe I was misinformed???

So, on a shot like this, to "drive in the depth", what aperture would I want to aim for? Appreciate your suggestions, bro.

Dave

Wow. Great shot of this rather large pile of dirt! :P Hey, really though, this thing practically composed itself for you with those sinewy lines twisting back and forth and playing with the light and shadow lines as well. I'm surprised to see shutter priority here . . . would have thought you'd go for aperture and and really drive the depth in! Still . . . can't argue with results and you certainly got them here. Setting sun and perfect light . . . awesome golden hour color . . .

....Of course . . . I'd say that thin black border is just about the perfect touch to constrain and define this image. Excellent work, my brother!

Doyle I <~~~~~

That is great too, I love it, when you have sunset or sunrises, the angle that cames the light makes the hills looks so nicely, beautiful waves of lighted ground and shadows...

Such elegant lines, and unusual colors, which you framed beautifully. This must be a great location for photography, the possibilities seem endless!
