on sydney harbour bridge, this week, a band of bridge climbers approach the arch's summit some 440 ft above mean sea level, thus satisfying man's (and woman's no doubt)urge to climb things for various reasons, one amongst them being the spectacular view of the place from where this shot was taken, the sydney opera house, another iconic structure on the opposite side of circular quay, that clamours for the visitors attention....six million rivets were used in the construction of the shb while the opera house roof is covered with 1.056 million glossy white and matte cream swedish-made tiles, not sure where the rivets were made but I doubt if they were made here, we just don't do rivets!
thanks Roger, callow is a word few would know the meaning of, guessing, well I had to look it up m'self, but then it's antonym (mature) sounds like the ageing process of cheese, it all gets very confusing, pleased you like the bridge, ta. david.
Hi Liz, thanks for your message, not sure about the rivets, mine was an oblique reference tinged with cynicism about our dwindling manufacturing sector, we dig up the raw materials (at your back door!) and send them off overseas to get made into stuff. cheers, david.
nice alternative view .. gotta love it.. yeah rivets lemme just check... nahh its gonna take too long.. yeah I used to work on the old gal back in 1970 ..in the Toll Office.. playing with all the twenty cent pieces... I was a callow youth... great shot
