To me it looks like what I see when walking in the night streets after having some glasses of scotch (and some more glasses of scotch ;-)). Not really some kind of fearful threat, not at all! A good composition and concentration on something usual and how to make it look special. The coloring helped as did the perspective and that moving something over the sign. But I think that extremely soft focus would fit better than camera shake, Ian. The typical motion blur look lowered the impossibility of a clear definition to some kind of mixture of exactly the same impossibility and a simple mistake.
