Oh yes Hugo, I can imagine the wasted film. This is a nicespontaneousway to interact with the environment when taking a stroll in low light. I've actually lost the screw for my tripod which is the main reason I continued with it. :) Of course it's an old trick I suspect many have discarded due to the nasty zoomy distractions you can get, but I'm hoping the extra framing challenge wil be good for me, not having much of a clue with that area. I often end up with nice elements poorly placed in the frame. so it makes me think of post and pre zoom. I reckon going for a grab at either end of the zoom process helps minimize the distracting zoom lines. I was also hoping using an extra small f-stop would emphasise the colour and make things sharp as possible at either end of the grab, also I guess it helps save the risk of being out of focus with the added d.o.f.. I'm so glad the spontaneity of it enabled me to capture my time with the magical beast that lived with us for two years. I have no more excuses to go to Aramoana, my muse, where I've been most days. An old trick, but what's it called mate?

you have shown here one of my favorite subjects, water, which - in this particular case - happens to look like another one of my favorite subjects, clouds :) combine these two with the faded colors and brushed/blurry shapes and you get a moooody (!) picture. you might want to try croping one inch from the lower part and rotate the photograph upside down for a different look.

heheheheh... I tried to zoom in during a shot so many times I can't even remember (imagine the waste of precious film before I switched to digital), but as of yet, I can only conclude I failed miserably...:) But at least I know how you pulled this off...:) Looking at your series, I'll defiitely have another go, though....
Cheers,
Hugo

Oh Hugo I was about to ask you. Zooming in during the shot. Nothing to do with the focus ring at all but that what my research came up with. Perhaps it a neologism, which is a pity because that?s a psychiatric symptom and not a photographic technique at all and perhaps I should ask my psychiatrist.

Hi Ian, this is evolving into a very well balanced and strong series. I dig this effect... Push focus, you call it... What exactly is that, and how do you do that, if you'd allow me a stupid question....:)
Cheers,
(Ignorant) Hugo
