During the musical dancing phase of the festival were the smaller kites and then everyone brings their own as well .... last year there were many more kinds - like parachuters, lady bugs, etc. but not this time -

A kite festival would be such an exciting event. The sky filled with various colours and shapes would certainly be wonderful to see and enjoy. That sounds like a lot to pay for a kite. However, people are willing to pay to get the top notch articles for their hobbies and it is great when they share their passion with others. You have caught the action beautifully.

Hahaha!!!! Well my Grandma told me the VERY same story about making kltes my dear !!!
Noooonononoooooooo ..... This really is a big World wide event happening in LC.
A few people here in town do participate in the event with their own kites but people are from everywhere - the kites are made in NZ + Austrailia - and they actually broke a record with 21 of these in the air - right in that image ---- in Paris they only got 19 in the air at once -

Very awesome. Love the colors. Think the people in Lincoln City have too much money on their hands if they pay that much for a kite...I remember the days when we went to store and paid fifty cents for a kite and then tore up a sheet for the tail.....forget I said that, I am really not that old, it was something my great grandmother told me.

Yes the kites are equal an expensive hobby as our photography :)) and soooooooo much fun too - these with their size I think you could easily take a surprise trip - if the ropes weren't anchored and burried in the sand !

This shot is great, excellent angle with beautiful exposure and colors. You did a great job my dear friend. Can't believe the price of those kites, yikes!

Hey AJ we think the same way - They were trying to break a record and get 21 of those kites in the air at once - which they did so that was over $100,000 in the sky - about 2 hrs. after that - the wind died - and they all layed in the sand - Yikes !!!!!!!!!!

As I look at this I can feel the warm wind coming up the coast, hear the surf dashing up and back from the sand and back . . .and the colors are so vibrantly captured to cause me to reach for my Raybans. Wonderfully imaged my friend.

Yes the kite festival is a yearly event and this is my fourth year of posting images from these festivals - You've a great memory :))
It was windy and cold when I took this shot with threatening fog to blow in off the ocean - after lots of shots I layed down in the sand to take a break and fell asleep for just a bit - when I woke up the winds were gone, the kitess were laying in the sand too - and the weather was Great - but not for a kite show -lol!!!!
