Location City -  Dead Sea
State -  MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
Country - Jordan   Jordan
About The Dead Sea (Arabic: البَحْر المَيّت‎, al-Baḥrᵘ l-Mayyitᵘ, "Dead Sea";Hebrew: יָם הַ‏‏מֶ‏ּ‏לַ‏ח‎, Yām Ha-Melaḥ, "Sea of Salt") is a salt lake between Israel (and the West Bank) to the west, and Jordan to the east. It is 420 metres (1,378 ft) below sea level, and its shores are the lowest point on the surface of the Earth on dry land. The Dead Sea is 330 m (1,083 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. It is also the world's second saltiest body of water, after Lake Asal in Djibouti, with 30 percent salinity. It is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean. Israeli experts say that it is nine times saltier than the Mediterranean Sea (31.5% salt versus 3.5% for the Mediterranean). The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.

The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. Biblically, it was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world's first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.

The Dead Sea is an endorheic lake located in the Jordan Rift Valley, a geographic feature formed by the Dead Sea Transform (DST). This left lateral-moving transform fault lies along the tectonic plate boundary between the African Plate and the Arabian Plate. It runs between the East Anatolian Fault zone in Turkey and the northern end of the Red Sea Rift offshore of the southern tip of Sinai. There are two contending theories about the origin of the low elevation of the Dead Sea. The older theory is that it lies in a true rift zone, an extension of the Red Sea Rift, or even of the Great Rift Valley of eastern Africa. A more recent theory is that the Dead Sea basin is a consequence of a "step-over" discontinuity along the Dead Sea Transform, creating extension of the crust with consequent subsidence.
The Jordan River is the only major water source flowing into the Dead Sea. There are no outlet streams.

In some ways it might have been safer but ther were milaties everywhere, so I was quite scared to get around here, this lake is also the border,
but it was a great adventure to get into the sea and watching the rocks from close by, all covered with salt, maybe the pink is the rusty effect of salt?
Thanks my dear Dan, hugs Jenxx

Wishing you a nice eveing, sorry your soccerteam lost yesterday, do you watch like we all do here?

Hello dear Bobot, I was being watched standing there, its all military area around there, but I was standing in it, just to feel, wont show you that one..loll
You are right, in just over 2 weeks I will be gone to South Africa again together with my daughter, who is coming for the first time!
Hope all will go well as the situation isnt really right over there, lots of violence and fights all around, also the re-elections will start on the day we leave for SA in Zimbabwe, so all will be very excited and hopefully not too scary....But not leaving yet, on the 27th of this month, so I will still be around:))
What about you, any holidays coming up? Be well, Jenxx

That is stunning dear Jen, it looks much safer than your last shot :-).

I especially love the details and exposure of the salt, it's really interesting how they get the pink hues.

Incredible salt formation, they look like corals.... and of course again a very good lesson on your about. Did you take a dip into this water, did you float easily? I think I got a hint from you that you are going to travel again this june, good luck and may you have a safe travel.
regards..

Hi Ali,
just the geo classroom reference is the thing I liked so much today. Jen did me such a favour putting this informative text close to her visual expression of salt. I was very pleased today by her choice and felt it as very "sweet" from her.
Kind regards,
Paul (I am a geology-geophysics teacher)

Hahaaa...I am sorry if I put too much of this stuff as an about, I will reduce it next time dear Ali:) But there are people who really love it you know, even I myself learn a lot reading it back:)))
I used to be a teacher, so that might be the background of all this, still wanting to learn
others and myself sometimes...:)
Thanks for liking my shot dear, wishing you a great weekend and big hugs, Jenxx

Dear Jen!
Its not necessary to read the encyclopedia . Your shots and abouts are enough. I feel my self as I am in the geo classroom while I look your shots. You are a good teacher and you love so much to share your knowledge. Very nice shot with clear tones.
Warm Regards. Hugs
Ali
