The many festivals of india provide livelihood to people in strange ways. They say that god leaves the idol after the ceremony is over. So, the idol, once worshipped, is immersed in a river. Many poor people earn a living by retrieving the remaints of these idols of deities from the water and reselling them to the local sculptors.
Thanks frank... It's strange to see that you were scared by the idol too.. When I took the picture and looked at the view-finder, it felt a little creepy too..
Actually, if you see the idol, with the paper crown restored up, it is very beautiful, however, the folded paper crown has covered half of the face.
Maybe that is what is giving it the creepy effect..
