Thanks for taking the time to tune the color hue of this IR image, Doyle. What I was aiming at here was a look somewhat similar I was able to achieve in the past which IMO approaches what was typical of many of the hand tinted BW images so prevalent in the 20s and 30s, with some greens, some yellows, some reds, and mostly an unsaturated look in the other colors, which gives somewhat of a sepia look. The blue hue approach makes the whole thing look, well blue. Let me work on this some more, and a true thanks for the suggestion. Anson

Great effect from the IR Anson . . . Honestly, I'm not sure about the color hue though. It seems a tad distracting so I looked at the image with complete desaturation and saw right away that it was better WITH the color toning than completely desaturated. So, I guess you were right. I did (also) play with the hue, however, and went toward the blue end of the spectrum which gave what seemed to me to be a more realistic, nighttime feel to the image . . .
I like it, though, very nice subject and interesting work!
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Pleased you like this one, Ben. Good timing means much towards image quality in IR work, and this one was taken in perfect light with little wind. You have an excellent start on a very good portfolio, Ben. Keep them coming. Anson

Sorry to hear about your illness Anson, good to hear you are on the recovery road. Are you shooting 'Manaul' exposure? I always do because I find that the exposure for IR is always off with very dark images.Hope you are shooting 'RAW' sO that you can 'play' with the exposure settings as I normally do.Don`t forget the Nikons are better for IR than Canons but converting will sure help plus no fiddling with filter,I used a circular polarizer too.Try -ev compensation to control the clouds been blown out, play with various amount but with the 'converted D70 I normally shoot at -2.7 ev. Are tooooo modest Anson,it`s a really beautiful image, here is the link for the nomination page. http://www.usefilm.com/Photo_Forum/22/1013683/ Have a great day. Robbie

You much too generous with your comments, Charles, but thanks so much anyway, and say hello to Didier for me. He looks like such a fun little dog. My wife, Lilla, and I had a mixed breed terrier named Taffy that I got from the pound that was the best dog I have ever had, but cancer got her. Cheers from Florida, and keep those images coming. You are telling me something about nominating photos for awards that I didn't know, Robbie. If I had known that I would have beaten you to the punch with at least one nomination of yours myself. I am still wrestling with the issue of consistency in colors and tones that has, maybe until now, eluded me. With my filter/camera combination, I have recently discovered that I had been overexposing many of my images, which causes a pronounced color shift. Cutting exposures in half seems to have eliminated that problem. This is with an unconverted camera, of course. The purity of whites and cloud detail that you get with your convertied Nikon still tempt me toward converting one of my Canons. I had been ill over the holidays with two separate bouts of what I will call the flu, so just recently feel like doing some traveling. I am flattered about the award nomination, which I don't feel I really deserve. Regards and best wishes. Anson

Glad you found one of my IR images, Linda (actually 2 of them). I use a Kodak Wratten 89b IR filter with my Canon 300D camera and set the white balance on brightly illuminated green grass. Cross Creek is the location of the author Marjorie K. Rawlings home, who wrote books about that community in the 30s. The creek itself connects two lakes, Lake Lochloosa and Orange Lake, and is not really a creek, just a connector. It is about 30 miles south of Gainesville, FL. I very much like your florals; keep them coming. Anson

Ooops I should have read the comments, I see this is IR, I thought so, but wasn't sure because of the rich sepia/coffee color in the background...:)

Oh I love old barns and rustic setting, I guess everybody does, this is very nicely composed, and I do like the effect you used as well. Did you use an IR filter on this Anson? The Spanish Moss in the trees makes me miss Florida, I lived in the Orlando area for years, before coming to Puerto Rico...Where is Cross Creek? Well done! :) :)

So great to hear from you, Julie. And yes, I feel great, and we dodged a tornado yesterday that showed up in northern FL. The image you see here has to be tweaked a little in PS coming out of the little Canon camera I use, but not a whole lot. The key is using the right filter with the right camera, ie the 89b filter I use doesn't work well with all cameras, and some cameras can't be used in IR at all, unless they have been modified. This Canon hasn't. I really liked your last orchid shot. Your friend, Anson.

I use a Wratten 89b made by Kodak, Miguel, but I must caution you that all modern cameras don't do well with IR. The Canon 300D Rebel which I use sometimes does very well with this filter. Thanks for the nice comment, and if I can help you with the IR, just let me know. Anson

Infrared techniques work best at midday when the skies are at least partly clear, with some clouds, Bill. It lets you shoot without getting up so darn early for "sweet" light. Thanks for the comment, and give my best to Cookie. Anson

This is great my dear friend, I love how the branches on the top of the picture add a mood to the entire scene. So cool what an infrared filter can do. Did you do anything else to it? Hope you're well. Hugs, Julie.
