About I've been waiting over a month for the perfect sunset after getting permission to photograph Gilbert's Barn. I thought tonight might be the night.

Unfortunately, or maybe not, the sky was filled with jet contrails. I'm not sure if I like them or not. But I sure appreciated the horse totally standing still while I took 7 exposures for this HDR shot.

So what do you think of the contrails?

Thank you, Jean-Francois. Of course, that distortion was the result of my 10-20 lens. In another published version of this, I corrected the lean via the perspective tool and actually like it better.

Very good!

The exposure is perfect, the colors are wonderfull and I would not worry about the jet trails.

The only downside I find is the perspective. I find the barn is a bit too distorted.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you much, Brigitte! Caught some criticism for the deformation of the building from the wide angle lens so in another version, I corrected that. Not sure which I like more.

Magnificient composition and great, great light! You put this one together VERY nicely, Dave. It is so cool how you positioned the brightest light of the sunrise directly in the path of the open door in the barn! The contrails add a lot of interest and reflect the light well. I like the whole image. The wide angle works very well here! BRAVO!!!

Warm regards,
Brigitte

Thanks, John. Funny how that first shot you take on a shoot is always the one you pick .... at least for me. Maybe it is because your mind saw that particular angle and scene and all later shots were not what you had in mind even though you were trying to improve upon them.

Thank you, Cathy. I did a beginner's tutorial and posted it in the forums a while back:
What the Heck is HDR? http://www.usefilm.com/Photo_Forum/17/1013616/

You can get a good idea what it entails if you read that...

Best wishes,
Dave

This is spectacular! Love the contrails, they add to the sense of drama that you have hinted at with the intense light at the barn door and the skeletal tree. Wonderful work.
Please tell me more about HDR shots, this is the first I have heard of them, you have piqued my interest. CC

Great work, the effect you put there makes the building looks fantastic and the sky is also amazing Dave... that X shape and the lines of the clouds are so nice... and teh horse as your 'main target', rich image is always a great image!
be well!

Oh the one is great, I like the staffage added by the horse, Contrails are fine creating some break in skies other way quite empty. 7 shots at f22 at evening light conditions is quite an exposure time. Good job. Cheers, NJ

Elegant!
this is what can say about this perspective.
just preferd: a bit skew to the upper left part to correct the perspective!

Love it, Dave! In the thumb, I thought the contrails were light rays. Usually I wouldn't care for the contrails, but they seem to work here.:)

Jet trails are not distracting if they are a bit wide and windblown. That's my opinion. This photo is special. Well done...Rick

Neat shot, Dave! I don't mind the contrails, but what I don't really like are the "ghost" edges to them from the HDR process. Makes me think I am just not focusing my eyes properly or something like that. The horse looked a bit funny at first. Seemed like it's head was too small for the body but it's just the way it's looking at you! Overall a cool shot. Cheers, Gary
