About In Winslow, Arizona.

In the early 1970s, the rock band Eagles produced their first hit album with the lead song of "Take it easy". In the song, the line "Standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona" became famous.

Today, in the downtown section of Winslow, they've developed a park and memorial to the song complete with a statue of a guitar-toting young man standing on the corner leaning up against the lamp post.

On the only remaining wall of an old drug store behind him, the "red flat bed Ford" of the song is reflected in a faux window.

Today, the tourist stores on the corner hype the song, the Eagles and the corner that brought infamy to the town. But the merchants fight over whether the corner in the song is that of the drug store or the corners in front of their stores.

Of course, shot at night, with the statue "painted" with blue jelled strobe flash.

Here's the lyrics from the Eagles:

Well, Im running down the road
Tryin to loosen my load
Ive got seven women on
My mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says shes a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Dont let the sound of your own wheels
Drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Dont even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Well, Im a standing on a corner
In winslow, arizona
And such a fine sight to see
Its a girl, my lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, dont say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
Gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
We will never be here again
So open up, Im climbin in,
So take it easy
Well Im running down the road trying to loosen
My load, got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin for a lover who wont blow my
Cover, shes so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Dont let the sound of your own
Wheels make you crazy
Come on baby, dont say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
Gonna save me, oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

That's what Doug says about my head, having been told it's vacant also, but hears things moving occasionally!

That really is sad then, none of the comforts of home, just a roof over your head, were you a bit spooked after when you found out? It woulda' scared the bejeepers out of me!

Ask Diablo if you talk in your sleep too, and if he has to jump in the middle you have to clean his doggy drool off the pillows!

"Do you snore?" I don't know, I'm never awake. I'll ask Diablo and see what he says on the subject.

Yup, sad indeed... I was shooting until about 1 AM, having been told the place was vacant... little did I know, somebody really was living there, no electric, no water, nothing... I knew I kept hearing things moving.

There were three in the bed, and my husband said "Why does Dave always get to sleep in the middle?!!!" LOLOLOL
Do you snore?

The sad café does look pretty sad, very dilapidated, but with a funky edge thanks to all that coloured gel, does it glow in the dark? hehehe

Thanks, Rebecca!! This one won't work for your sad cafe? http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1343754

"your night shots are unrivaled anywhere!"
I'll ask you for the umpteenth time: Marry me! I promise I'll throw the other one away.

Oh Dave...if only my suggestion for a project with song titles/lyrics went thru!!!!
This is a winner either way for me as I am a HUGE Eagles fan. Grew up listening to all of their songs (thanks to Mum and Dad), now go find me Seven Bridges and a Sad Café, with a little Tequila Sunrise thrown in for good measure and I will have a Peaceful, Easy Feeling!!!!

P.S. Great work as always, your night shots are unrivaled anywhere!

Thanks, Ani. I know what you mean about the lyrics... I can't ever get them out of my head for a while after going through Winslow. Which I do often.

Best to you,
Dave

Thanks, John. I agree about the guitar but since I was cropping to a specific print size for putting this in the gallery, I was somewhat limited. Had I been able to crop to something other than a print, I would have been able to show some space down there.

Best to you,
Dave

Thanks, Dani. On each of the bricks is the name or message from a donor to the park.

That frame is fantastic, and really great presentation for that statue and the building...ahhh...little bit more 'air' at the bottom of the quitar but not big deal, again excellent shot, and very good exposure.
Be well!

That's a great story and cool concept for a photo. Sounds like you had a lot of fun making this composition.
