About The area to the east of the Grand Canyon is known as the "Painted Desert" because of the constantly changing colors of the landscape itself. It is caused by the vast variations of geographical make-up involving minerals, etc.

This is a good example of why it is the Painted Desert, strange compositions of land in relatively small areas. In the background, you can see the various other colors that comprise the "Painted Desert"

Thank you, Michele... the future "Mrs. Lux" (if I ever win that contest).

This was taken under bright sun. As you know, digital comes out rather flat. So yes, it does look more like this in person than what the camera captures. I used slight levels/contrast/burning in PS to tweak it.

Best to YOU!

Thank you so much, Brigitte. This was shot at about 3:00 PM MST. So I had bright sun at the time. It was taken last weekend. No filters. The vignetting you see was/is the result of a gradient layer, darkening in levels. Slight levels changes and contrasting/burning was used to take out the flatness of the digital photo.

Thanks again!

Dave

Well thank you very much, Alan. Yes, I take that as a compliment, very much so. And I'll have to thank Maryanne, too.

The night photography has been a lot of fun and I do encourage you to try it. Especially in the summer. Here in the desert, it is way too hot to be out taking pictures in July... so my alternative is to do it all night. Of course, sleep time suffers. :)

Thanks again,
Dave

What a beautiful landscape image of this 'painted desert' dear Capt. Lux - Is this all just the way it really looks or did you do anything else to it- I only ask because the 'about' sounds as if you didn't and it just looks like this.. either way it is beautiful --More so I think if it actually looks like this ....it's georgous ! I do love the tones and textures, and how they seem to drip off in the front...excellent image Dave,

Good shot,
michele~

A stunning landscape and composition... very interesting! Great details and colors. What time of the day did you shoot this and what month? Did you use a filter? There seems to be a bit of vignetting at the corners...was this caused by a lens hood? Thank you for sharing the details of this scene in your "about". Best regards, Brigitte

Dave, Excellent work! I just got turned on to you by my friend Maryanne and I love what you are doing. I especially like the long exposure night stuff. I am inspired to try that myself from what I've seen you do. Please take that as a compliment.
