Probably the strongest of the three Jessie! The young Heron is sharp and well focused and the downy, imature feathers . . . soon to be lost, stand out quite well.

You'll note that in this shot the DOF has blurred the BG and not the Foreground which was switched. Best to have the BG blur in my opinion, partly because it reduces distractions but also because it makes the subject 'POP' more and the clarity seems that much more intense. I'd suggest a slightly lower aperture.

Since you're already on aperture priority here, the F/7.1 you selected is giving a tad too much depth . . . you've plenty of light so I'd say drop to at least F/4.5 or F/5. That will blur BOTH foreground AND BG . . . but the side benefit is that the drop will increase the 1/100sec shutter speed and a faster shutter will make the image even more clear . . . eliminating slight motion blurs.

Shooting birds and wildlife with a propensity for motion I have found that Shutter Priority is the best way to go . . . so you can get a fast shutter and less likely to get motion blur form either side. I'm just sayin' . . .

Some nice work Jessie! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

PS: Saw those comments . . . you girls are funny!

I like the way you caught the sun coming through the feathers, Jessie! Great lighting and details!
