Shirley - The ants I found in New Orleans were a bright redish orange color and they had a fierce bite (very very painful). They weren't much larger than these ants, but man did I move my foot off their mound quickly.

Shirley - These were crawling over my hands because I had to put my camera right down into the middle of them. Probably accidentally crushed a few, but they are so small I'm not sure. I can't even fathom how many there were. Ants don't really bother me. Well, those tiny red fire ants in New Orleans bothered me...

Hmmmm...if you didn't tell us what this is, it would be hard to make it out. But I like the higher up, overall shot of the cluster of so many tiny ants.
One time I was shooting my favorite model, Anna, in a forest and didn't realize that there were large carpenter ant mounds at the base of each tree. She was posing for me so bravely while these large ants were running up her legs, and I was oblivious until after the shoot. I would not have been so brave!

John - Thanks. Not only is the DoF blurring things, but these little ants were moving everywhichway. I was surprised that the few that are clearly and distinct came through at all. If you look closely you can see very small streaks of light were the street lamp was shining off an ants head at the head was moving along.

WOW...the ground under that darkness and the so big aperture gives a so abstract result, I also like a lot the stronger lighting at the center of the area you focus, that gives more strength to the abstract image, good one James, nice unique idea.

Hopefully you didn´t get them all over you. Not very pleasant at all, but a photographer has to suffer for his/her art:-) I especially like your title in this one, but still I must confess that your luxwork is what turns on my enthusiasm. I like the spooky dark mood though.

That's an amazing number of ants all gathered in one place. I particularily like the colors in this shot, and how you need to look closely to realize its a multitude of tiny ants. I again like your title choice.
