About Staithes is one of the prettiest - and consequently most photographed - villages on the Yorkshire coast. My visit there coincided with the arrival of an impressive but rather disheartening bank of sea fog that rolled in like a feature from a John Carpenter horror movie! I thought at first that the fog had prevented any photographic opportunities; but then I came across this coil of rope with the fog-bathed harbour serving as a suitable backdrop. It was irresistible!

I really enjoy the way you compose your works, creating a strong focal point in the foreground and utilising a portrait format. CC

Thanks, Pietro and Branimir, for your kind comments.

I can't agree with you there, I'm afraid, Branimir. It's important in these conditions to place the foreground subject in a recognisable context. Placing the background out of depth-of-field would have removed that context and the environment that it needs. This is especially the case where the background in question is as prominent as it is in this frame. Many thanks, all the same, for your opinion: it is always valuable to hear other people's points of view.

Regards.

Ian
