About This red squirrel decided to raise her family in our bird house. One day I took some shots of her coming in and out of the house. I guess I got too close which made her very nervous. She didn't like me finding out about the location of her house. The next day she decided to move the brood. I understand they usually have a back-up home in case they feel the primary residence is too risky. I watched her take each off spring out of the house, along the fence, across the our yard and into our neighbours yard. Her young ones are almost as big as her.

As you suggest, after disturbing her the day before I intentionally stayed some distance away for this shoot. Thus this image is a 100% crop.
Thanks for the comment.
All the best,
Joe

A bit blurry, which I assume is because your a decent bloke and staying a fair distance back from the squirrel.

Some very nice shots here.

Never seen young squirrels ... very interesting! Looks like the young one is taking the adult out of the house, LOL. A great shot, very well composed, too!

Hi Doyle,
Thanks for the comments, I agree. I would rather have birds in my birdhouse but if not birds, squirrels are ok just as long as they are not in your house. Bees can go elsewhere. LOL!
All the best,
Joe

Sounds like you have serious problem. You have to seal up all openings so they can't get in and they can get in a very small opening. The problem is that you will likely seal some in when you do it. Sounds like a job for professionals. I would definitely consult a pest control firm. They should be able to offer you some none lethal solutions to your problem. eg trapping and live release. But you have to get all access points sealed or they or their friends will just come back. Sounds like they have already done significant damage to your home. They will really mess up your insulation, I believe you live in Oregon and since it gets cold there it is important to have good insulation in your home. They could damage your wiring which could be dangerous as well.
Sorry I can't give you a more positive response but it sound like to me you need the help of a professional pest control firm and a home repair firm if the repairs are beyond your scope. All the best with this.

Great catch of the moment here, Joe! They tried to take over one of our bird houses, too, but I don't think they stayed.

VERY cool Joe!! Nicely seen and captured. My friends had a beehive move into their birdhouse. Hmmmm . . . think I'd rather have the squirrels! LoL!

Joe -- What a wonderful couple of photos. You should get points for patience on this one and capturing this distraught Mom in her throws of moving (a very stressful time, I might add).
Amusing and excellent documentary.
--Best to you, Jan

I really do like it Joe-- but I do have another question non photographic for you if you have any answers.... I live in my Mom's BIG OLD 4 level house- it was built in the 50's I think...and squirls have invaded... we know this because they came out in the laundry room once--- mostly they stay in the walls and or the attic but they are sooooo loud and sooo un-afraid of us, & the cat we don't know how to get rid of them-- by chance have you got any suggestions since you seem to know they might have a back-up house?
Thanks,
Michele~

Thanks Onie, looked like quite a chore for her, she had a lot of young ones to move and as you can see they were almost as big as her. Also, she was moving them quite a distance. These red squirrels are not very big. Glad you like it.
all the best,
Joe
