About I have been searching for an image to show my confusion about 'TIME' I am not sure that this is it yet-- but maybe it will help since here in Or. we do observe(?) and use 'Day-Lights Savings Time'
My confusion began 2 weeks ago- when this ritual began early. My computer still doesn't know it, and I find I get easily confused STILL--- any other thoughts on this subject ? I would LOVE to hear them --

Excellent shot, I LOVE the way that the image cutted from the buildings like that, diagonaly and with the clock - lamps at the middle as a composition.

Wooooww Michele,

Perfect shot and an excellent composition !
The dark diagonal works great and drives all the attention to the beautiful clock.
Time confuses me also sometimes. Then I realise that it's just and nothing more than an idea of humans. That helps me to forget it.
Wonderful view and I think your title fits very well to it. Compliments, my dear !

Take good care of yourself,
Albert Jacobs :)

You really are a great friend Robbie.. You've given me lots of tips and ideas and just plain HELP ... I guess you know how I value it ? I hope you do - I try to tell you the best way I know how- So Please know that I do.
I am having soo much fun. And I know it will take me some time to learn all about this D40-- Are you familiar with Pradnya D ? She is very good and we both got the D40 about the same time- she is more advanced than me but she doesn't think she is-- I know she is-- We have become friends so it does help knowing someone with the same camera I agree. And lately I am shooting daily, posting daily, and viewing others work at least 5 hrs. a day... maybe I should slow down-- I love it so it'll click for me one of these days--I have faith!! But it's really nice to have friends like you and Doyle too:)) Really nice.
Your Friend,
Michele~

Hi Michele
Moving up to a DSLR from a point and shoot is a big jump so don`t feel bad about not getting everything right,I know that you are learning a lot. This takes time even for me with the D200
which is a hand full,Yesterday I was shooting Ospreys with a ev+.7 at ISO 400,to cut down on the noise level I switched to ISO 100 and the EV
settings to -1.7!!!
Really mess up my images but I shoots RAW so I can
manipulate it.At f36 your image quality will lower than f8 to 11.
Don`t worry about the technical stuff all at once,
continue to enjoy your shooting and read as much
as you can.For starters your compositional skills
has improved a GREAT deal and as you grow and see other photographer`s compositional intrepretation you will improve even more. One idea you might consider is to comment on members who uses D40 to shoot and build a rapport with them so you can share ideas.
Take care and have a great weekend.
Your friend
Robbie

Hi Robbie I may have to try the aperture differences in the morning because it is dark here . First I tried it inside-- but because my room is small it wouldn't let me go to f/36 ( I guess) so I went outside and then the darkness became another object for me to resolve. I did take 12 shots ... and there were 3 or so that came out very sharp with F/36 so I am guessing that maybe this aperture could give a better sharpness and quality ??? I will try it again inthe morning tho...
Thank You because I really do need the help - and there is something I am not doing right, or some-things.
Michele~

Lovely composed image Michele, nice colors and
you JUST stopped time!!!
Take care
Robbie
Michele try this for me please
Put your camera on Aperture Priority
shoot 1 image at f36 and another at f8 to 11
open them at 100% and compare the sharpness and the quality.

LOL Michele... :))) Sounds like you're getting a little *ticked* off at the time changes...:)))
Great idea *Framed Time* to show your dilemma... Lots of nice angles and lines... :)

Mine adjusts no problem... It's the one in the car I hate LOL... Always forget to do it, and do a mental adjustment every time I look at it... which is usually when I'm driving and I'm not going to stop and fix it... Now I don't have to change it, because we've just changed back to EST... GEE!!! Time stands still for no man, or woman for that matter ~~GRIN~~...

Nice work Michele...:)

Onie...

Boy, you ain't kiddin. At least when normal DST happened, my body was kind of used to changing at certain times of the year... now it's all messed up.

Good portrayal of your "confusion! Nice frame-up job....

Hi my dear Srna !
Thank You for your kind and generous comment.
I feel like you do about time...and when it must be gaged for bussiness I do get confused... I didn't like our American Change of time this year-- I guess you know that, ha!! The state of Az. just plain does not observe it at all! Oh it is silly but I thank YOU for your always sensitive and kind comments my dear friend:)
Many Warm Hugs,
Michele~

No, Michele. You play with it and see what you can come up with. You need to copy the original full-size jpeg and work on a copy and see what you can do. Sorry about the green cast on the clock face; probably a result of the contrast change without me bothering to twiddle the color balance.
Enjoy....
--Best to you, Jan

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/27/2007
I can see it now, after I uploaded and it is not right-on the mark and not correctly merged with the background. This should be done with merging layers and the editor I have won't siupport that on this laptop. But you get the idea.

Quick & Dirty Mickey Clock

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/27/2007
Michele -- Not sure how this one is going to look as I am working on a wireless laptop in transit and only took a small snapshot of your image. Starting quality is poor and I have a primitive editor. But in any event here is the same image with a little bit of contrast and sharpening applied to the existing clock face. Hope it is viewable.
Not sure I can do Mickey with this editor.

I didn't know that Jan- Thanks for filling me in. Yep I better get patched:) If I can...

  0

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/27/2007
Yes; an unpatched system will be wrong twice every year. This year the next "wrong" phase will begin October 28th and end at 2 AM on November 4th.
This is because Congress changed the transition of DST at both the front and the back end.
So..... better to patch now if you can.

Hi Paul,
OMG What a Story !! Thank You for chimming in and sharing it ! That is soooooo frustrating isn't it :)

I could have this wrong totally , -- but I am thinking that this week-end my computer will fix itself -- + finally get back in sync ? If not well then I will get more serious about it I guess... Always loved the song.. 'Does Anyone Really Know What time It is ?????? Lol !!!!

Many Thanks Paul,
Michele~

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/27/2007
Paul -- Look at the software and see if there is an option for DST Manual versus DST Automatic.
Cannot figure out why you cannot patch. There was a newer one posted by MS if you have Windows.
Having the wrong time or time zone would drive me bonkers!

Yeah, I have a background application that synchronizes my computer clock with a world time server, and for DAYS...I'd adjust the hour, and then it would go put it BACK.

I finally set my work computer to Eastern Time just so it would display the proper time. (I can't seem to patch my computer). LOL.

One example - not sure if it is the right size. have not seriously looked yet.

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/27/2007
I imagine I could google the image option with the term "Mickey Mouse" and come up with a graphic. Copyright issues aside, if it was in a crop-able circular format it should be easy to drop in to the existing image. If you know how to drop in the image I can look for one and send it to you via regular email. Otherwise I could cut one in to a smaller version of your image as an example.
I could do that but not likely before the weekend as I am travelling and not near my PC that has my editing software.
Let me know if you want to give it a try.

Michele -- OOPS! My language was ambiguous. I meant the act of selecting the existing face and increasing the contrast on the one already in the photo. I did not mean to mislead you in thinking that I thought you should find another one.
My apologies for using a word that I assumed would mean the same to you as it was defined in my little brain. :)

Hi Jan,

Thank You for the computer info:)

I do see what you mean by another clock face and incresed contrast and sharpness... but I didn't have a photo editing package so this had to do.....
I appreciate the idea tho , really I do-- I have been searching for weeks for a clock face I liked-- and just had to make do with this one...
Thank YOU for your great comment Jan.

Well, Michele. There is a patch from Microsoft to straighten out your computer's ability to handle DST but enough of the Geek talk. I really like the theme and how you illustrate it. The composition, the diagonal as well as vertical and horizontal lines as well as the contrast and range of tones: they all work for me. Well done. If I were to pick a nit (this is just personal preference) I would have selected the clock face only in a photo editing package and increased contrast and sharpness but only in the clock face. Like a said, just a nit and not a complaint.
--Best to you, Jan
