very nice composition,,, the tree on the foreground shows the texture and a close up view while the tree on the background shows the form and the wholenes of the tree... interesting textures of the bark..

Joggie...:))) It is such a joy to view this camelthorn again... I loved the other version, and that is where my preference remains...:)

Like a silent, mythical soul keeping watch on the world around... All the wisdom enfolded in those textural lines...:)

Not sure this one works for me. It drives my eyes nuts because i want to look at the tree because of the way you have created the composition. But because it is blurry and the foreground is in focus i am forced to stay visually up front and to the left. HAHA....at my age my eyes are going and i like to try to maintain some kind of clarity!

Joggie, I don't know what it is happened but all your pictures of the last month ore more are not appeared in my Friend Photographies. This is already happened. I will look at them tomorrow with time.
I like the splendid foreground, but the photo for me is made by the very well harmonized tonalities of colours, till the impressive contrast when meeting the sky.
Take care.

Giuseppe

Thanks Hugo - a very valid comment. A step to the right would bring yet another tree into the picture which I did not want to, tried to keep the composition as simple as possible - see the previous Guardian upload - this was done taking 2 to 3 steps to the right. Another option would be to take one step and then clone out the unwanted trees in the background. However, I always try to keep that kind of editing to the minimum and let the photo be a true reflection of what nature presents. I need to go back there and spend some time with these standing fossils - Just an amazing place! The DoF - point taken, might try something with PS!

Hi Joggie,

Very good details, and I like the way the essentially single sided composition by the tree in the foreground is countered by the tree in the distance; The DOF seems like a decent choice, but I'm not so sure it has the desired effect. Eventhough a wider DOF would've reduced the depth in the image, I think it would make the balance in the composition a bit stronger. Another element that, IMO could've assisted in this is the placement of the tree relative to the right edge - taking a small step to the right, would've placed the tree more to the right, too, if you'd kept the current composition of the tree. I think that would also increase the balancing element in the composition, if you see what I mean....

Cheers,

Hugo

Sure, colour and texture are beautiful here, too, and the view of the lonely tree in the far background challenges my Japanese aesthetic feeling.....but, I still prefer Guardian (1) - I believe that's the best!!!

Very nice composition with the foreground tree, Joggie, and fantastic detail and textures. I really like the layers of colour in the background scene as well.

I love the detail in the foreground, and the soft blur in the back. Nicely done. I would love to see this in print to get the full effect. I usually don't like frames, but this works well.
