Yes, it is. I assume that the sepia-like tones and the limited visibility enhance the melanholic atmosphere.

Thank you very much, Koteiba!

Exactly, Andre! But this kind of dilemas do sharpen our eyes/view and support this way the evolution of skills much more than "easy scenes" do. One gets aware about special problems, and so this awareness leads to thinking, recognizing, evolving. Since this world doesn't seem to care about being photogenic, making the best possible compromise seems to be some kind of very hard but also good teacher for photography.

Cheers and a nice weekend,

Nick

I understand your dilema with this one Nick. sometimes a compromise is the best we can do. if you had cropped out the snow completely, the bottom of the trees would not look right. If you add more foreground, you end up with some unwanted items in the image.

Thank you very much, Maryanne! Bright colors do have their charmes, but the absence of bright colors in a dark winter day, especially when the world looks so sepia-like, has a very "schematic" quality that is very appealing to me too. It looks like the border between painting and drawing in some way.

Best wishes,

Nick

Hi Andre and thanks for the nice and detailed comment!

Indeed the snow line in the foreground is also too thin for me. The situation at that place was a bit tricky. This snow line is a small wall in front of the lake - about 40 cm high. Now, in front of the wall there were many bush-like plants distributed here and there and not fully covered by snow. Taking a bit more of the wall to make that line a bit thicker would just include the top of those plants in all possible shapes and hues of green. I tried that looking through the view finder but this just destroyed the "linearity of the snow line at the bottom and added many colors different than the sepia-like colors of the rest of the scene. I felt like going for a compromise and leaving them completely out of the photo at the expense of a thicker snow line at the bottom, which would really add much if it were possible.

Many many thanks again and best wishes,

Nick

Very nice Nick!
I like the way the horizon blends in softly with the water. I also like the balance of the two trees over to one side.
Only a minor detail and maybe it's just me, but I feel the line of snow is a bit too thin in the foreground. That is only my first impression and sometimes it takes a while for something like that to grow on me.
Certainly a very appealing image regardless.

Danke Dir sehr Ralf!

Nick
