Thanks so much for such an in depth critique, Nicolas! It is very pleasing to read something different from the usual 'nice image, great capture'! I agree with you about the use of wide angle - I would like to think I use it when the situation requires it, not for effect. It's funny you mentioned the guy with the 'fashion pants' - I would say 'old man's trousers' - I was thinking exactly that as I chose this image to upload. He seems to be from a different age. Actually, this look is quite common in Oxford... not exactly a mecca of high fashion, I can assure you! Happy new year... my new year's resolution is to encourage everyone on Usefilm to avoid the hideous word 'capture', which is soulless and makes me think of photographymagazinespeak....
Very interesting shot dear Patrick. I really like the fact that the performer's instrument is leading our eyes towards the little girl. It's also interesting the way that the man is standing in the background with the old fashion pants, it creates the illusion that the image was taken years ago. One thing that I will like to share with you is the use of the wide angle. It is very dangerous when a photographer starts using the wide angle lens broadly, because later on you might be identified from the wide angle images (also seen in your image ‘Street games’) and not from your work as a whole. Wide angle tends to impress the viewer but it is the high quality work that should be the recognising point of every good photographer.
