The pixelization looks like what happens to something if I zoom it too large. In my photo editors I sometimes do this zoom to see the area I am working on and do a close up job of correcting small flaws. Yes, I realize its against your religion. But they used to do things like dodging and burning and numerous other things in the wet darkrooms. The only place I would object to any corrections would be on photo journalism. Otherwise, it is just like anyone would do in their wet darkroom with different developing techniques. Why should it be a sin? Agreed, it is best to take the photo perfectly when shooting it. But if you have a good basic photo, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing a bit of touching up.
Did you resize the photo when scanning it? Its something in the scan that has caused this if you have done nothing in it with a photo editor. We should find someone who knows about this scanning. I have recently got a new scanner, and have used it a bit, but do not know that much about it. Most of my photos are digital and they feed into the computer as Jpegs (unless I shoot CCD RAW - better resolution) directly from the Compact Disk Card reader. Also, its my understanding that on line the computers use 72 pixels per inch and no more. Any higher resolution is lost. So unless you are printing up you photos the higher resolution goes relatively unnoticed because the computers just do not use it. We lose a lot of detail on line. A tremendous amout of detail, actually. And then there is compression -- I have to read more about that and get a better understanding of what compression is. It figures into how our photos look on line though too.
Ok, off my soapbox now. On to see what else you have been up to lately.

Makes a nice abstract. good lines in this. I like the tonal range. Agree with working on contrast. Try curves? Used judiciously, though. Did you sharpen it after scanning? People have been telling me to sharpen my scans. They have said that sharpening or using unsharpen mask should be the last thing you do to the photo. Just thought I would pass that along. See if it works for you.

Great 'eye', composition is real good. IMO you should work a bit more on contrast. Just an opinion because this is a real nice shot.
