About
When you live in a small town in Northern California, chances are, you get your hair cut buy the friendly local barber.
My friend Bill's Barbershop, on the only business block in downtown Larkspur. My new series on his shop, but he doesn't know it yet. Got the idea on my way home tonight, when I passed by his shop that was closed for the evening.
Enjoyable. More like a Weston than the ^^^^^^^^^ (Carrots, get it?)
Weston was a master of the soft tone, something that I have seen in all of your shots. He had an image that was minimal without being stark or clean. I think it was that the compositions were simple and minimal, but the textures and surfaces were always brought out to high relief, so you could read the grit and animalism. There was also this charcoal sort of softness, like velvet.
Carol Watson seems to carry this through her portfolio as well.
In software terms, this is the "glow" factor, but done without a smudging algorithm.
Hopefully this reveals another way to approach the work.
Great shot/shop window!!! Neat collection of shaving mugs/cups, fantastic crop, good composition... well captured!! Yeah, I was just thinking... just a few more days and he can wear braids... LOL!!! BTW too bad he (the barber) put the big/high/long things at the top so you can't get (totally) rid of the fluorescent light shine/white top of the display cabinet... Wonder what other images you'll 'snip up'
