Ray:
He is one of those working the glass . . . and has been doing so for eight years making him the "new" guy. I do not recall his name but he's very polite and helped by providing me with lots of narrative about what's happening and why. The name of the man with the pipe was Chris and he appeared to be in charge. I believe he and the others stay out of the way when molten glass is carried about for safety reasons . . . 2,100 degrees Farenheit would most likely cause more than an "Ouch!" statement were it to be touched by somebody inadvertantly! It is for this reason he is in the background.

Never mind the glass blowing and techniques Doyle who on Earth is that BIG guy in the background. He looks as if he is straight out of the heavy mob and not someone I would care to meet in a darkened alley:):)

Michele . . . fear not . . . your comments whether critical or not are always supportive and it helps me more than you know to get feedback of any kind. I still feel so overwhelmed at times to be in the company of such fine photographers and, like you, hope to learn and get better. You certainly DID teach me something today and I did see that shot you mention. In fact, I have seen others here on UF now too. So thank you.

I am sure you have heard of Chihuly ? The most famous glass artist ? His work cost pounds of cash.. In the gallery in Boca Raton we had chandeliers that cost 30+ thousand ! And people bought them of course they were georgous but my goodness. If you have the time you would enjoy this tour. Sorry I couldn't get the exact link...things they are changing.

Thanks Doyle actually that was the first piece I noticed yesterday... quite a color change. Geez loosing 10% is not so bad but still a loss is a loss. Thankfully nothing is wasted .

The piece was destroyed by touching the side of it to the oven and marring it . . . But the glass gets melted and re-worked. Chris told me 10% of all the work was re-melted due to errors or defects.

Since your last sentence was an incomplete one I have no idea to what the 'or' refers.
