Oh, I see now. Even though posed the look MUST be natural . . . not forced. You're right!

Yes, I agree, but he is posing and waiting. I have this "problem" too. That's why this pic intrigues me. Thanks for looking my portfolio. Regards Fitim

Very nice Doyle. I think that this is my favorite of the three. Great angle, DOF and composition. The conversion to black and white is really nice.
I'm looking for something to critique... the only thing I can find is the glare on the metal thing in his hand. Good work my friend!

Thanks Jane . . . I checked light levels, balance and contrast as well as taking test shots . . . If there's an issue here it's likely due to re-size, upload or your monitor . . . but doesn't exist on the original. Thanks for commenting though . . . I very much appreciate the feedback and especially the critical feedback that I have asked for with this image.... :)

Thanks for commenting Fitim . . . The ONLY posing in this shot was by R.S. himself . . . at my request. It's not often portraits are made without 'Posing' . . . but I appreciate your comment.

Jessie: Yes, Christian Karate is church oriented and taught on the grounds. R.S. has taught at more than a couple of churches but his students follow!

Great figure/ground here - I like your choice of foreground subjects. He commands attention as the teacher and has great presence within the frame. I particularly like the gleam on the weapon in his hand.
Not sure if it's my screen settings or not, but I'd like to see this image with maybe a little more contrast in the tones.
Overall a great editorial shot!

Aah memories Doyle. I'm looking at those floor mats and remembering how many times my toes were broken when they got hooked in between the joins:):) Mono tones suit this subject well and it is another good entry into this project. I love the shot of the Sensei, his back to the class that is being driven by his subordinates. Each component of this study is well placed and gives a pleasing balance to the composition. Well done to you my friend for this additional shot in this interesting series. My very best wishes to you as always....Ray

Very concentrated looks from the teacher here Doyle. Like the choise for the background, it makes this photo complete IMO. B&W also suits this image, and the small black framing finishes it entirely. Take care,
Klaas

Still the intense and serious eyes...I know he must be kind and strong... Like you have said before the 'Eyes' either 'Make ' or break the picture... You captured his eyes well and the well disiplined background is also attractive. Nice shot my friend. Michele~
