Hi Dave, the glowing edges are due to very fine silky hairs on the bracts covering the red coloured styles. A characterstic feature of many of the Leucospermums.

Very "neon" and bright on that dark background. What's up with the glowing edges? Is it the result of the film or backlight/sidelight? It really makes this Protea stand out.
