About This is a miniature set at Universal Studios. The boat is about 18 inches tall. The picture has been cropped to maintain the illusion. The set is a back drop painting of the sky with a model of the "rock" and a floating boat.

Gene, the Quantaray is made for Nikon cameras to be sold by Ritz, there is no Quantary camera. Ritz is where I bought the camera a month ago and this is the lens it came with. I think the softness was me taking pictures with a camera I am not familar with as it is the first camera that is more than a point and shoot for me, other pictures taken the same day were very sharp. The camera can do more than I can at this point, so I can not blame the camera.

Why put a Quantaray lens on a Nikon D50? Could be why it looks soft.

Please! An apology?!? None needed! Though I do appreciate the gesture. We're all here to share our opinions and we ALL know what they say about opinions, right?

I really enjoy your stuff, keep it up. :-)

Jacob, Doyle has pointed out that the softness is in the ship, which I did not notice as my eye focused on the rocks. Thanks to both of you.

Thank you Doyle, and I guess I owe J an appology.
I did not notice the softness of the ship as the rocks were to vivid.

I could see that it was indeed a miniature when looking at the photo in full size, but the thumbnailphoto almost had me fooled:-)Very effectice crop! If you want critique I must say that itīs a bit blurry with noise. Still I love the mood in this artificial landscape:-)
Best wishes,
Annemette

Brilliant image Marlyce. The colours and textures well good. I love the reflections you've captured. A really strong image that I would never have known unless you said where it was!

I love this shot MQ! I should say now (or I should have pointed out before) that the ship is a tad bit soft. This can be easily seen because the name of the ship "Venture" is not clear . . . and it probably would have had more impact if it were. This is because you have a very good DOF, but the focal plane is not on the ship, but the stones.
---Never-the-less, it's a great, very unique shot and one I would have loved to get! This shot of the miniature feels very much like the movie and it's a fun shot too! I get the feeling you were there . . . but having seen the movie . . . it's good you weren't. It DOES give a very good indication of the intricate models used in movie making and how it's filmed!!
A great feeling is communicated from this shot and what I wouldn't give for that painted skyscape!!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Jacob,
I seldom take offense to critcism (unless from my 5 kids). I would not have put this in the critique corner if I wasn't willing to take it. You get some rest.

I don't think it's the background, but honestly...perhaps it's my eyes needing rest. I've been up for nearly 46 hours. I think it's time for me to get some rest!

Thanks for not taking offense to criticism! :-)

This may look softer to you, however, in my opinion it is as sharp as the others. Is it maybe the fact that the backgroud is a painting and not real sky? I do appreciate the comment and really appreciate your reply! As far as shooting for Mr. Lucas? Yea, I'm sure he is looking for me.

Given the sharpness of your other photos, I'm surprised to find this one a little soft. Is this the result of cropping like you mentioned?

Either way, you've captured a neat little image here. Perhaps you'd consider a career in shooting miniatures for George Lucas? :-P

Thank you Michele.
And are you resting easier with the "storm". I have thought about you the last few days. Glad all is okey-dokey with you.
