About One of the highly adapted mesembs of the Knersvlakte (Namaqualand - South Africa). Only two succulent leaves appears every year, pushing through the old, shrivelled leaves and therby also exposing the fruit capsule of the previous year. With the appropriate moisture levels, the hygroscopic "arms' of the fruit capsule opens to release thousands of very small seeds.

How very unique this is! It looks very alien/star wars like and seems so strange that is would be found in the rocks. Very interesting creature.

Amazing plant and well done composition, Joggie. I have no idea of scale but think this to be a rather small plant. The DOF carries well and I like the rich tones.

South Africa is the Paradise of floral photographers and dealers. Europe is full of floral plants native in S.A.. I have this one in my garden but didin't know that it too comes from your Country.
The photo is perfect and the sharing admirable.
Thanks.
Ciao Joggie.

Hi Joggie, This looks so unreal (not describing the photo, but the alien feel of this plant - no idea such a thing existed) Thanks also for putting in the time to write the information about this ET. The subject is so surreal to me, it's difficult to judge this on it's photographical qualities, but for once, I rest assured it's as good as usual, and just appreciate the educational lesson...:)

Cheers,

Hugo
