Nice capture. Quite a feat getting the two of them in a single frame, too. I'm watching a couple of pairs of Eastern bluebirds in the houses I built in the backyard, but I don't think I've ever gotten as a good double portrait as this one. Good work . . .

Regards,
--George

Dave: You're ahead of us by about three weeks. No one except the winter birds are here yet. I looked back and it was early May before they got here. This is a wonderful shot of birds we would love to see here. We have their close cousins only.

So this is what your ma and pa look like. I would never have guessed!!! Your pa has a wonderful head of red locks.
So wonderful to see these two side by side to see what the female and male look like. Striking details. I like how the red is carried into the blooms of the tree. Great job.

You must really be warming up Dave. I see where parts of South Dakota got almost 2 feet of snow. Hope it missed you. They are just waiting around for some handouts... Nice picture Dave.

Nice composition and colors, Dave. I think I would crop off the little bits standing up from the bottom, and maybe the bend in the branch at the very top. I like how well you've managed to bring out the birds' wonderful colors, even in the shadows. Nice!!

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 4/19/2006
Hi Dave,
It's easy to mistake the female of these for a Sparrow at first glance. No mistaking the male though.
We had a couple of these build a nest and raise their chicks in one of our hanging baskets a couple of years ago. My wife would carefully water the plant without flooding the nest while the mother sat on the eggs. Then one day there were three baby birds instead of eggs. Unfortunately, they didn't last long. We think a Crow might have got them.
