About If you know the work of the British artist John Miller (no relation), you will understand what I am trying to achieve here. No PS except for a little saturation enhancement.

Sorry for my recent lack of presence on UF, but I hope to be home soon.

This reminds me of David Hockney-Bigger Splash, and all that. There's a wonderful clarity and simplicity about this image, the different tones of blue and the contrast with the yellow of the beach, great. One for my favourites page.I look forward to seeing some more like this.If you are ever up here, do get in touch.

The different layers of colour caught my attention in the thumbnail. Upon opening it, I see the beautiful textures in each of the layers. Lovely transition of colours.

I like this picture because at first I think it is the beach but as I continue to view it also looks as if it could be a deco type art painting or print. The colors are soothing and the propotions are very interesting.
Thank-U for sharing this lovely shot. The soft lines add to the wonder of this shot. Good Job.
Honestly,
Michele Carlsen

Somewhat blurry and could be more vibrant in my opinion. I understand the object, and think it does it justice, but I don't find the image itself particularly pleasing.

Ciprian

I think I like this one better, John. The horizontal strips of colour feel more comfortable, visually. The panning gives it a lovely smooth appearance. Excellent concept. Cheers, Ann.

I'm not familiar with John Miller's artwork (i've just looked for it in google), but i like your photo, i like it a lot. It's a great abstract, and i like, avobe all, the peaceful composition. Flat lines make always a nice and pleasant comosition for the eye. Less is more.
Well done John!!

all my best,
ferran

Great , great composition. I like that nobody is here, even steps, or little things from civilization. View for relaxation, soft, deep colors.
My regards, Larissa

I love the effect here, John! Wow, you did well by swinging the camera while hand holding it. At first I too thought it was a slow shutter speed (or maybe a zoom, though it didn't really look like that). I think the horizon has more of a very slight curve than a tilt, though there is a very tiny difference left to right. I like the colours, the bit of texture in both the sand and water and the overall concept. Very creative. Cheers, Gary

John:
Great idea (we HAVE both been to the beach)! My only thought is that a crop slightly tighter on the left would eliminate the blue in the white sea foam. Other than that, it seems like a very intriguing image.

Ach, you are so perceptive Hugo! I do keep needing these reminders to pay attention to details! A basic issue, but with an image like this it is crucial to get it right.

Thank you so much, Jeanette. The people sitting on the beach thought I was absolutely crazy, making these wild swinging movements with a camera held up to my head.

I really do appreciate your support, especially as I cannot reciprocate much at present. But I hope to be home in a couple of weeks and will do my best to catch up with all my UF friends then.

Hi John, I checked scrolling the browser window aligning the edge of the window with the horizon, and it's there, but very minor. It would surprise me if it's more than 0.5 degree...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo! Thanks for dropping in on this one (and I really do apologise for my recent lack of reciprocal comments - I will try to catch up as soon as I can). Funny you should mention the tilt, since I thought that I saw it also, but on checking the image before I uploaded it I found the horizon to be absolutely horizontal. I imagine it is an illusion created by a slight angle of the beach.

Drive by shooting, heh? Good combination of colours, and apart from a minor clockwise tilt in the horizon, it's a shot that's entirely build around the tones and the dynamism. The subtle textures are nice, though, they prevent the photo from becoming just an array of hues.

I think this is either a shot that you like or don't like. Knowing the work of John Miller would definitely help, and unfortunately, I don't. Still, below the line, I like it, as it's unusual, creative and well executed, and that's not just the benefit of the doubt...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks Kevin. I needed the bright morning sun to get the colours, hence the fast shutter. I got the long exposure effect by panning horizontally as hard as I could. I think I still have some way to go with this concept.

VERY nice! ... I'm surprised to see that the shutter speed was 1/250 ... It has the look of a long time-exposure.
