Thanks for your comments Bruce. A closer match of the skies is the right call. I should make the sky in the last image darker. I prefer the darker look as there is no hope for this area.

Thanks again
Mark

I think you've got the order right too Mark. The first looks like a normal house but with the dark clouds giving a feel ing of foreboding. The second one shows that maybe everything isn't Ok after all with the boarded up door, then the very poignant third which I think is the best of the individual photos - those sagging lines really tell the story and then the road leading away to an unknown future.

Maybe improved if the skies were closer in colour and darkness, especially in the 1st and 3rd, the 4th could be a bit lighter to give a bit of a feeling of hope.

Hi Tabitha

Thanks for your comments. I like your letterbox idea but unfortunately there weren't any.

Great collection Mark.. very moody, suggesting melancholy and right you are about the onslaught of housing and developement issues.. I wonder.. was this a Housing Corp home, and where did they shove these poor families! Good Works and issues!
Cheers :O) and Congrats!
PS- I think you are right with your start to finish, being empty at the end!..an option could be to introduce a fifth pic.. of a broken letterbox! :O)

hi,Kiwi...this is an interesting subject for a pano...the darker contrast level and hues work well with the scene...especially like the ominous cloud cover...i would just swap positions of the two on the left as viewed...that way we see the close-up of the house, then the house receeding, then the stark yard of debris and finally the distant view...good work!

But there always has to be a but ;-)

I agree with you to a point. I think that the order is ok the thing that concerns me the most is that it is quite heavy on the left hand side leaving it feeling a little unbalanced. Maybe the left hand side of the frame being busy and the right not quite so lends to the idea of demolition and the final consequence which is emptiness.

Definitely a work in progress. Thanks for the critique Manu it's always good to hear from you.

Hi Mark,

A very gripping series, very moody atmosphere and a powerful presentation. The gloomy tones add a lot to the feel, and I think the arrangement of the individual shots manage to create a compelling story.

Although I think the change in amount of vignetting is perhaps a bit too much, the effect of the filter as well as the blur near the edges enhance the feel a great deal. Good stuff, a very intiguing photo, which leaves plenty of room for the viewers' imagination to roam freely in assessing the atmosphere. Great stuff!

Cheers,

Hugo

For me its the saturated colors, the darkness and the greyness that work.....the idea of having four in a row is excellent also.

But, and you knew there was gonna be one, is taking the whole foursome as one image I cant help thinking if they are in the right order? To me, the image as a whole, is "slipping" off the page. Its like they need to have something more in common, like composition for example. The second shot is very busy and structural in its composition whereas the third from the left is more minimal and uses the space above it for it balance...?

I'm waffling on here, Mark but I hope it makes sense....to sum up...the individual shots are excellent but as a group I think they need re-arranging to become one...

Cheers mate

since you are telling a story, the one act that is missing is the actually demolition.

You could almost use just the first picture one on the left and then the one all the way on the right, but that might be a bit abrupt and brutal.

The third picture on the right is haunting though, reminded me of Katrina.
