Beautifully done, with perfect light for the subject. A reminder for new generations of the reality of war or the real threat of it. We have pill boxes in England even well away from the coasts which would have been a desperate last line of defence, thankfully never needed but now provide a vivid and tactile way to explain to kids why they were built.
Anyway, your image transcends those sentiments with wonderful graphic presentation and those traps looks quite benign almost like bedouin tents. Exceptional.

Outstanding composition, perfect lighting and exposure!!!! I really like how the pyramided tank traps flow from one end to the other and the lines in the shifting sands flowing in the same direction. This was well thought out and executed. An award very well deserved!!!

Congratulations and many compliments!!! 7+++

I suppose that everything is already been said about your extraordinary image. I'll do the most important thing: stay and admire.
While admiring I more and more appreciate that black shadow in the bachground for its fondamental end of outlining and give risult to the row of tank traps.
Bravissimo!!

Thanks for your comment Collin. I'm actually a Queenslander, took this on a tour back in 2004 when I first bought my 20D. These are the only ones still visible, since they are in a blow area, so the sand keeps moving off them. It seems the rest are long buried.

Great shot Mel, I didn't know there were tank traps on stockton beach. Congrats on SC!! Did you get any pictures of the fire out there yesterday? Great to see a local shot. Great portfolio, you've done some travelling.

wooww Ms. Mel..
this shot is superb with a geometric mode, composition and realization!
also i remember an old shot of my old friend in Uf, similar, but your have a great character in the cut so little! .. all the formes, but also the great light that have created a perfect balance in the light-shadow; maybe i see all the full shadows for the first and last "tank".. i'm sure that the staff choice is very wlel deserevd it!
all my congrats and have all the best..

Thank you very much Irenka, these are tank traps that were placed in world war II along the 25km stretch of beach beyond Williamtown airbase, in New South Wales, Australia. There were fears of a Japanese invasion at the time....these are all around 2m tall, but probably half buried in the dunes here. These are the only ones left visible because of the shifting sand.
