Tom, thank you for that very helpful comment. I have no formal training in photography and don't even own any filters. I think that this points me in a new direction to gain some ability in the use of filters then.

One thing I really like about your portfolio is how your colors pop so much...but this series of three plant close-ups suffers a bit in the color department. It's kind of a high contrast and low saturation thing, I think. Here's an idea: use a polarizing filter on plants; it can remove some glare from flat, glossy surfaces and help to saturate colors.
