About This picture has 4 planes of depth. The large blurred circle on the left is the closest; the one with the clear letters is the second; the one with the blurred letters is 3rd, and the bicycle is the farthest. I shot this looking through the first circle.

Great perspective of a somewhat dull subject. The black and white is effective here, also the sharpness of the text is very good.

Regards,
Ciprian

Bobbitt - LOL! No, I don't think we're breaking any rules, we're talking about flash photography, cropping, etc. But I don't think this will be the critique of the day, anytime soon :))))

PS...sometimes I wonder about our conversations. Are we breaking any rules? LOL :)

I'm not qualified to crop it. My name isn't Bobbit. LOL :)

Not even if you "crop" the offensive part? (ouch!)

Needless to say that is one photo you won't see here on UF. LOL

Nuff said - ahem! ;)

LOL - Ann, that is hilarious! Your pictures have more interesting details and "FLASH" - ha-ha!

WOW that's great when you find things in older photos that you didn't realise were there when you first took them. Of course I don't think that's ever happned to me. (haha)

Oh wait...funny short story - there was one time I took a photo of a group of friends (all quite inebriated and in our 20's) When I got the photos back from the developers (pre digital days) I found that one of the guys had unzipped his trousers to air out "little Johnny" and nobody even knew this until we all saw the photos. He didn't say a word about it. I guess that doesn't quite count as having found something in the shot that I didn't see at the time? Not naturally scenic anyway (YIKES!!). Well it was funny at the time anyway. (hehe)

I look forward to seeing your photo with the funnel cloud.

Cheers - Ann :)

Thanks Ann, I didn't know what project this could go in, it may also be OK in the Minimal DOF? It's about DOF anyway! As for the sharpness, I'm really happy with the new 20D camera, it has made a great difference; the Rebel was good until it broke and it's been repaired 3-4 times, and it hasn't been the same ever since. I was going topost another Flaming Gorge, I found one and when I darkened the sky, a huge funnel cloud appeared! I had no idea it was there, wild! Cheers, Ina

What an interesting play on DOF Ina. So many levels all masterfully captured and very well thought out. B&W was an excellent choice for this keeping the eye focussed (pardon the pun) on the subject without the distraction of colour. Th details and clarity in the 2nd level or layer is superb. Razor sharp. I like the curves and circles. It has a lovely flow. A great shot Ina. Perhaps it would have suited the Unusual Vision project?

Cheers - Ann :)

Thank you very much Paul, you're right - this shot is more about photography than it is about its actual subject, a non-photographer probably wouldn't think in these terms :) I'm happy it turned out this way. Best regards, Ina

Ina... This is a fantastic shot. It has everything. DOF, cool abstract, and the grey steel writing is perfectly sharp. Congratulations on a superb job. Regards Paul

Thanks very much for the comment Jim! The picture has 4 planes: the most blurry circle on the left is actually the foreground :) Best regards, Ina

Thank you so much Susie, as I told Kathy, we're having spring weather in our area. It's too nice to stay indoors, yesterday I went out and took these shots (library chairs, bikes) plus a few more. In actual size it's way sharper on the letters, but that's as large as is gets on UF short of panoramas :) Best regards, Ina

Jim Goldstein   {K:21230} 1/24/2006
I like the repetition in form very much. The depth of field is just shallow enough to blur the background but allow you to make out what is there. Very well balanced. I also like the b&w tones. A very solid photo.

Thanks very much Kathy, we've been having some unbelievable weather - warm and sunny, I got out yesterday and took some shots around the public library. I noticed some ground cover with flowers - in January! So I won't post any ice shots for a while :) Best regards, Ina
