About Big Bend National Park - walking up the Rio Grande along the canyon walls, you come upon some really nice views of the river with Mexico on one side and the United States on the other.

Carol:

12/24 - 1/2 -
Arrive San Antonio, Riverwalk, Mission Trail, Goodwill Stores, Antique Stores...

Christmas in Big Bend, stayed at a strange place "The Perfect Hideout", then on to Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Headed to El Paso, Huerco Tanks, Museums, Goodwill Stores, Antique Stores, etc...

Back across, stopping at some caves, Gaudalupe Mountains, and in the San Antonio area.

Then some state parks in San Antonio, the Alamo, Goodwill, etc...

Then some great music in Austin; Musuems, South Austin Jug Band at Stubbs for New Year's followed by of course shopping at Goodwill...

Nice shot! I didn't know you were planning on visiting my stomping grounds! We almost went to Big Bend again over the holidays, but headed to Nevada instead! Where did you stay?

Hugo -

No, good comments, but in case you did not know this, I have a calibration image - uncategorized. You can use it to calibrate your monitor while using UF!

Hi Mike,

This one looks much better on my screen at home... The contrast and details in the walls of the canyon is more than nice. Very strong shot. Funny how big the influence of lighting conditions and monitor quality actually is!

Cheers,

Hugo

You are correct, but I did not carry my tripod, so I was unable to shoot multiples for the PS post processing. Very sad. I may get into the photo and mask to darken the sky with levels.

Thanks - days later I saw an exhibit of Ansel's prints and it is affecting my PS processing and choice of UF photos to post...

Oh looks like this would have been very tough to expose well. You've done it just fine, but the sky bugs me. I think I would have taken several and layered them, so the interior details could be seen better, and possibly present the true blue the sky was.

Hi Mike, definitely not an easy shot... It's bound to have a huge contrast, but I think you handled it very well. (rather difficult to assess under the lighting conditions here...:( ) I like the vague details in the canyon wals, as well as the warmth radiating from the sunlit parts. A small nitpicky point is that I find the composition a tad static, but I don't think there's a solution to prevent that. Well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

Lovely! This reminds me of an Ansel Adams shot. It has a great vanishing point and reflection.

Super! I love the dark walls framing the narrow defile. Terrific composition, palette, clarity.
